Going full-time? Here's every safety net you just gave up

The list nobody hands you
Employer group life insurance. Short- and long-term disability. Paid leave. An HSA match. A retirement plan with someone else's money in it. When you go full-time as a creator, all of it disappears at once, on the same day.
Most creators replace the retirement piece first because it's visible. Life insurance is the one that gets replaced last, because nothing breaks when you don't have it — until something does.
Variable income is not a disqualifier
Underwriters are used to 1099 income. They look at averages and trajectory, not your slowest brand-deal month. Use your average month when estimating, and be honest about it.
If your income swings hard year to year, that's a good reason to talk to a licensed agent before applying — not a reason to skip coverage.
The order we'd do it in
Emergency fund first, then term life if anyone depends on you, then disability, then retirement. Term life is usually the cheapest line item on that list and the one that matters most if the worst happens early.
