What term life actually is
Term life insurance is a simple trade: you pay a fixed monthly amount for a set number of years, and if you die during those years, the people you name get a tax-free lump sum. That's it. No investment component, no cash value, no complicated riders you didn't ask for.
It exists to cover the window of your life where other people depend on your income — usually the years with young kids, a mortgage, or a business that hasn't been handed off yet.
Why creators skip it
When you work a W-2 job, life insurance is often handed to you during onboarding. You click a box, and a policy worth a year or two of salary quietly exists in the background.
Go full-time as a creator and nobody hands you anything. There's no HR portal, no benefits enrollment window, and no default. Skipping it isn't a decision most creators make — it's a decision that gets made by nobody.
What to do about it
Start with a number. Our estimator uses a common rule of thumb — 10 to 15 times annual income plus debts — to give you a range in about two minutes.
Then check a real price. For most healthy creators in their twenties and thirties, checking is free and takes minutes, and the answer is usually cheaper than expected.
